Mixed media. Small works. Sensual textures. Peace.

Stephanie Katrina

Since childhood, Stephanie has been lured into the visual and sensory poetry of the small. Like many, she would sit for long periods gazing at the structures of tree barks, wildflowers, water reflections, sidewalks… These enthralling moments, lost in the composition, sensual details and textures, became the bridge to a deep peace and shared divinity. As an artist, she is driven by a desire to investigate and connect themes of captured moments, memory, and energetic relationships, and translate these into visual forms.

Working primarily in collage, she uses acrylic paints and other mediums to add colour, line, and tactile/visual textures to papers and objects. These materials are essential to her practice, as they inspire and drive her designs, sometimes in a pre-planned way, more often during the process. Playing with techniques of layering, repetition, and adding unusual objects (e.g., found rusted pieces), allows her to achieve a unified and luminous whole.

Ultimately, her mixed-media artworks aim to capture the detailed and vibrant energy of the world and the spirit that connects us. The emotional auras of nature, places and people guide her creative process. Recharged by ongoing moments connecting to the small vignettes that express a whole universe, she expresses that joy in play with new colours, objects, and ideas. Her overarching goal is to share this energetic essence with others and form ripples of positivity and joy.
