Joan Forsythe
Joan is a new resident of the City of The Kawartha Lakes and is transitioning from city to country life.
She practised Interior Design professionally in Toronto for her working life. She has a bachelor’s degree from the School of Architecture at the University of Manitoba.
As retirement approached she got back to her love of artmaking.
Joan has studied at the Toronto School of Art, Haliburton, Neilson Park Creative Centre and worked with several artists who inspired her. She was President of the Forest Hill Art Club for six years and a member of the Don Valley Art Club, serving on the Workshop Committee.
She is an acrylic and mixed media painter and paints abstract landscapes and non-objective works.
She loves the natural world and many of her themes are based on her photography from extensive travels in South East Asia, China, Japan, South and East Africa, Egypt, trek in Nepal and her kayak adventures in Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island. Her most recent adventure was to Antarctica on an expedition ship in 2018. These landscapes are embedded in her memory and deeply affect her work.
Joan loves to read and is a member of two book clubs. She does creative and memoir writing to make her friends and family laugh.
